Inactive discussions: to delete or not delete

Hello, my colleagues are asking about deleting inactive discussion topics.I quote"I thought that if a discussion wasn't generating new content and becamemoribund we would eventually take it down."My answer:We don't delete threads without an important reason for doing so. Even a threadwithout replies can be valuable to the community as someone else having the sameissue may come across it.Any comments?See More

Which Social Network Are You Deriving The Most Value From?

I've gotten plenty out of linkedin personally, but im looking to better my efforts with both facebook and twitter. What networks do you feel are helping you market your brand, learn more about your business, or increase your networking abilities the most?

Google is a great example of a couple of guys who took mathematical formulation into methodology and took that into a software system that earned them “billions” of dollars. Google wasn’t the first in the search domain (neither…

One of my favorite methodologies comes from Google; That is, Create a platform (for some form of openness), help people use it, then get out of the way. I think the most difficult section of that is probably the "help people use it" part,…

Paul Renzi replied to Ken Vanosky's discussion 'Question of Purpose'
One thing I intend to take away from what you've said is the importance of blatantly showing my lack of knowledge as openly as possible to help engage more knowledgeable minds here in the community. I also plan to take your lesson on openness…

Ken Vanosky replied to Ken Vanosky's discussion 'Question of Purpose'
In terms of intention we are structured as a community of practice, i.e. a community of people engaged in a process of social learning. In theory we have the common goal to learn from others by engaging in the sharing of experiences and practices in…

From Glue to Revenue?

I'm just starting community events in my gaming community, but I'm wondering where else I can take those events. As I mentioned in my last post, you don't need physical meetings to get events going with gamers. What I thought of doing is offering cash games to get competition going again. I would of course host them at first, but, hopefully, they would lead to community led cash events. Has anyone tried a similar strategy with their web business? If so, do you know of any software that might… Continue

The Importance of Events in Online Communities

I've mentioned in other posts my other social network here on Ning. Just recently, I decided to grab some people up and start hosting events to get the community moving a little more in sync. Already, I've got people jumping at the chance to work on the events with me! Now, I have to admit, this particular community revolves around gamers, meaning it can easily be brought together for virtual events rather those of physical nature. Since most gaming events are as simple as piling a bunch of… Continue

Amazon Associates Helps Monetize Information-Based Communitites.

Well If you haven't noticed, I've added a bit of code that allows everyone to check out reviews on the books that both I and other members have been reading. I just learned how the "Amazon Associates" works thanks to my very helpful internet marketing professor. He showed us class the site only a few days ago, and I immediately saw an opportunity I wanted to share with the community. I have always loved the book recommendations you can make on Linkedin, and thought they would make a great… Continue

The Joy of Building a Community for Young People

On the Ning network, I've got another community called L3g3ndz (or legends). It's a community for gamers to meet and greet, build teams (often called clans or guilds), arrange events, and keep track of one another when they move from game to game. Let me tell you, the people I've gotten to join the cause have created such a great place to chat. In the gaming community, there's a lot of humor, a lot less restriction, and an ethnically diverse set of fun and competitive people. There's no other… Continue

Keep It Personal

Friends,

In an effort to make the site as open and personable as possible, I'd like to ask everyone to do their best to use real profile pictures and real names.

  Thank you,

Add Twitter Tracker For Great Info

This app will keep you continually updated on news related to your subject of interest.

Add the application by going to my profile and clicking on the bottom left of the application where it says "add to my page", then select a topic for it to search. (i.e. "social entrepreneurship" or "social network") Good Luck!!

Help Our Community Generate Content

Welcome,

I'm really excited to get some discussion going! The more we all contribute to the content and discussions, the better we all learn from one another! I personally really value, as I hope you do, openness in a community -- that's why I put this site up. Sites like linkedin.com, which similarly focus on business oriented communication, seem overly rigid and not very conducive to the sharing of ideas or engaging in common interest based discussions. This is a place to… Continue
